Opera was directed by master of horror: Dario Argento. I must say that i yet have to see a lot of him but so far he had his ups and downs. Suspiria was cool, Inferno boring as hell, Tenebre a masterpiece, his part of Two Evil Eyes very decent and the same goes for Giallo and his MOH film Jenifer. This, Opera, was another one of him that i didn't like.

A young opera singer (Betty) gets her big chance when the previous star of a production of Verdi's Macbeth is run over by a car. Convinced the opera is bad luck she accepts, and becomes the target (in Argento's unmistakable style) of a psychopath - a man she has been dreaming of since childhood.

I think Opera is a very poor Giallo, especially compared to Argento's brilliant giallo 'Tenebre'. Opera wasn't half as convincing as Tenebre. There are some decent scene's with a decent tension but a lot of potentially scary scene's get *beep* over because of the *beep* acting. If Cristina Marsillach was as good as an actress as she was beautiful she would have won an oscar. But she ain't. The *beep* script wasn't helping neither.

The kills were decent and the idea of putting pins between Betty's eyes so she had two watch

the killings was prety original and sadistic. Visually it was great. Argento manages to create some very original shots, although the cameraman in the mirror was sloppy. The rock music was disappointing and unseasonable. Why couldn't Argento and his crew create a nice piece of music like in Tenebre, Suspiria or even Inferno.

Also the way how the killer gets unmasked is incredibly weak and implausible. The same goes for the stupid ending which was prety ridiculous.
