Big name star

I seem to remember that around the time I saw this film first, in the cinema, there was a review of it in the paper where someone (the director?) said that htey had wanted a big name star for the lead role, as they had been told that this was essential for the film's success, but that when said star arrived on location and was told what the temperature was outside, he refused to get out of the bus. Does anyone else remember this, or who the "big name" was?

That sounds highly improbable. There weren't any Sami "big name stars" in Norway in 1987, especially not a teenager like the lead role needed! Still today there aren't really any Sami actors in Norway who could be called "big name star essential for a film's success." There are a couple of prominent Sami musicians etc, but not Sami language actors that could be called household names.

Also, a Norwegian wouldn't refuse to get out of the bus even in Northern Norway. Norwegians are used to it being cold in the winter. This sounds like something a person from a warmer climate would do. I strongly doubt Gaup ever said this about Pathfinder. Might have been for some other film Gaup did, but not this.
