I'm sure this has been discussed before but... let's do it again!
Anyhow I'd say it's a tie between "Veiviseren" (Ofelas) and "Nattevagten" (Nightwatch). What do you think?
I love both "Ofelas" and "Nattevagten". I think "Insomnia" (the original, with with Stellan Skarsgård) is up there as one of the best Scandinavian movies too.

Flåklypa is considered to be the best norwegian movie of all time. You can argue but that's what the "important" filmcritics say.

Uff da... I'm Norwegian American and I haven't seen any of these movies... But I definitely want to check out Veiviseren!
shareDon't forget about the pre-feelgood movies from Norway. Døden på Oslo S, Giftige Løgner, De blå Ulvene and so on. Also Pan and Kristin Lavransdatter has to be mentioned. Søndagsengler is in my honestly opinion one of the best Norwegian movies of all times. And for comedies, worth mentioning are Olsenbanden :)
Some of the feelgood-movies are worth taking a look into aswell, Mongoland, Buddy, Jonny Vang, Elling, Hawaii-Oslo etc.
We have a few great directors and writers from Scandinavia, Ingmar Bergman, Bent Hamer and Lars Von Trier to mention some.
Actually, sum up, Scandinavian movies are in world-class, and because of Bergman, they have always been. I hope we continue the trend :->
Being a norwegian, but having lived in Denmark, I'd say Adams Æbler. That movie is a masterpiece.

I really find it hard to answer this question, I have missed out on to many Danish titles (I'll improve I promise) However "Det sjunde inseglet" (Seventh seal) is great so is "Flåkilupa grand prix" too and is probably my favorite Norwegian movie of all times (not forgetting Ôfels nor Ni liv) but just to have mentioned it, one of my personal favorites: "Norske byggelklosser"

I could say many more:) I am also a big fan of Danish and Swedish movies. Have you seen the crazy, danish movie starring Kim Bodnia? If not, see the,!:) "I Kina spiser de Hunde", "Gamle Menn i Nye Biler", "Inkasso", "Containerkuppet". His character is mad mad mad! Favourite Swedish movies are *beep* Åmål", "jalla jalla" and "Cops"

I'm American, and while I liked Fanny and Alexander, I don't think it's Bergman's best movie. My personal favorite is Cries and Whispers, as depressing as it is. Persona was good too, though I didn't quite understand the ending (I'll have to watch it again sometime).

If you are interested in Scandinavian films, then I highly recommend that you watch the Swedish movie "Ondskan". The English title is called "Evil". The DVD release in the USA for "Ondskan" will be on June 27, 2006. The Danish movie "Nattevagten" was very good however "Ondskan" is better and it is definitely a contender for best ever Scandinavian film.
The best Swedish movies I have seen is "Fanny och Alexander" (it definitely superior to the Seventh Seal and Persona in terms of acting and cinematography; the acting is just amazing) and "Torsk på Tallinn (1999) (TV)", the best Swedish comedy. Wish there were an English version (or is there one?) so it could get larger audience.

Englar Alheimsins (Angels of the Universe), from Iceland, directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson. Great great great movie. Maybe I just like it more because I'm Icelandic.
I Kiner De Spiser Hunde is also great. I love that movie.
