the language + DVDs

Hi,

Just wondering, is this movie completely in North Saami? or also in Norwegian? I've been wanting to see it for a while but I can't find it on DVD or video. i live in Melbourne, Australia and it is in at least one library here, but I heard that their copy doesn't have subtitles but is dubbed into English and I'm really not a fan of dubbing so i'm sort of hesitant about looking into it further (especially as membership for this libary is about $70, so it would be cheaper to order it from somewhere).

Also, anyone know if there is a version of this with swedish subtitles (as my Swedish is better than my Norwegian)?

reply

Since the story is a north saami legend, the spoken language is mostly north saami. I dont know what language the tjudit are using.
It is subtitled in english, swedish, norwegian, german... you name it.
The DVD is for sale in every store that sell DVD's in Norway. At least where I've been.

Hi Saaivu,

I've been looking around in some Norwegian dvd-shop catalogs and the only version I can find is one with only Norwegian subtitles.

Do you know what company it is that has released Ofelas with the range of subtitles so I can look them up directly?

Cheers,
F.

I´m sorry to say that I made a mistake. The subtitles are just norwegian.
My bad. But I´ve heard that it will be released in english soon!
But you say that you can read swedish? If that´s right, you will be able to read norwegian because norwegian and swedish is so similar to each other.

I'm not a fan of dubbing either. But in this movie it really does not matter since there is very little dialogue. About twenty lines in the whole movie. I think it's a good action flick, with beautiful winter scenery.

I dont think it's twenty lines in the whole movie. It's more than that. The people in the siida is discussing alot. What to do, where to go and so on...

For anyone wondering, I just watched the new remastered edition Pidax Film PAL release of this great film and the picture quality is outstanding. Audio is excellent. Has Sami,English,German and Spanish audio options with English,German,Spanish and Portuguese subtitles. In my opinion the only way to see this is with the native Sami audio combined with subs of your choice, of course I used English subs. Great release by Pidax.
