25th Anniversary Reunion Screening July 7th,2012.

Just got home from the 25th anniversary screening at The Aero in Santa Monica.

First,the print of the film was not perfect but watchable.It started out rough but then got better as it went along.I'm almost certain there has never been a restoration and you can tell from both the DvD as well as from the screening.It was not brought up in the Q&A either so who knows if it will ever be restored.

The Q&A was fantastic.William Phelps {Director},Randal Kleiser {Writer},Matt Adler {Rick},Nia Peeples {Kiani},John Philbin {Turtle} and Gregory Harrison {Chandler} were all in attendance.

Some of the Stuff that was discussed:

-They went over Afew stories that are on the cast interviews on the DvD,the reception and filming of the movie.

-They also went into depth about The Who-ey {However you spell there name,the real surf gang on the north shore}.About a year after filming Randal Kleiser said the feds came to his screening room when he was editing an had him go back to Hawaii because The Who-ey were being accused of extortion,they charged the north shore cast $1000.00 a day for protection and waving off all surfers trying to surf while they were filming.Everyone said they wanted no part of it and didn't admit to anything.Everyone else chimed in with one of there Who-ey stories too,which was very entertaining.

-Nia Peeples said when she was riding the horse on the beach something went up her shirt and ripped it completely off.I did not catch what that was but she was mortified.This got a huge laugh from the audience.Her husband was also there and chimed in with a Laird Hamilton story.He said Laird got picked on one time from a kid who though he was really Lance Burkhart and after Laird tried to tell him he wasn't a bad guy the kid refused to shake his hand saying "I don't shake hands with Cheaters",This got the crowd in hysterics.

-Alot of other movies from Matt Adlers career were brought up to much applause.Flight of the Navigator,Dream Alittle Dream and White Water Summer got cheers.

-John Philbin said he once saw a shirt that had a picture of Matt Adler that read "I'm Rick Kane Bitch",that got a huge laugh.Also when asked about Finding Nemo he said he was really confused about the Turtles,because he didn't know if it was a tribute to him or not,even till this day,but he said he loves all the animated Surf movies either way.


-The final question was of coarse about A North Shore Part 2.Gregory Harrison said about 15 years ago it was brought up and there was interest to get all the characters back together,but Universal does not want to do a sequel and does not want to get rid of the rights either.

All and all it was a fun screening and hopefully a cast screening happens again.
