Varrick made a -stupid- move

I am not talking about wasting Bracey - though that WAS pretty stupid, because had he NOT done that, he could probably have 'seduced Benjy to the dark side'. I mean, Benjy was so close to becoming a Porsche thief for real anyway (though how could he safely own a Porsche, when everyone else's Porsches were constantly being stolen?).

It does beg the question; WHAT would have happened, if Varrick had not killed Bracey? Benjy would probably trust him, and Bracey would start seeming like an evil lunatic to Benjy, and soon they could both cruise to Hawaii to have some fun, and whatnot. Benjy would have no more motivation to do anything to Varrick, because he found out Varrick didn't kill the cop.

No cop-murder = no reason to bust Varrick (except for the Porsche thieving). So Bracey could foam until he's blue in the face, but Benjy would probably start seeing things from Varrick's eyes, and hey, the 'lifestyle of rich and aimless' was very tempting to Benjy anyway. What young man wouldn't be tempted by such a lifestyle, unless he's a Buddha or a Zen-master?

But as I said, I am not talking about any of that, as interesting as it could be.

I am talking about the packing.

Why, oh why, did he leave the packing for AFTER the dirty deed?

Why not casually and freely pack first, having all the time in the world - and THEN do the horrible crime, and then drive DIRECTLY to the airport? He'd be on the air by the time we are shown him just packing. It doesn't make sense to linger in his place, packing and listening to the doorbell with a gun in his hand. Who would want to be in THAT situation?

Isn't kind of stupid of him - such a mastermind, such an intelligent and smooth guy, and then he makes such a stupid mistake..

.. isn't that always the case in movies, though?
