"This is a much better film than "The Fast & The Furious" which was a hyper-active, cheesy glorification. This film took its time to develop real characters and was able to show how the DB Sweeney character could be seduced by the lifestyle and pay the consequences for being drawn in. "
Yes.
This movie PROPERLY and CORRECTLY shows what 'seduction' should be like (though it could be even more powerful).
If the Star Wars prequels had done HALF the credible 'seduction' stuff THIS movie does, no one would be complaining how ridiculous it was the way 'Anakin' was 'seduced' to the dark side.
Heck, the emperor never even offered Anakin any women or booze. No mansions or speeder-Porsches or parties. Nothing. Just vague speeches of 'power', if I remember correctly (and I have only seen each 'prequel' movie once, because I am certainly not planning to go through that crap again, so I might mis-remember).
This movie shows how someone COULD be seduced to the 'dark side' .. a good Miami Vice episode does it also, but in a different way, it only shows the results (the episode with Ed O'Neill being the undercover cop).
Star Wars is horrible in how it does this. They could at least show him going a little power mad, being able to telekinetically manipulate things, lift objects, and stuff, and not being able to always resist the temptation to do 'unspeakable stuff', like squeeze women's butts telekinetically (a MAD comic once did this about Darth Vader, it was funny, but it's also realistic).
I mean, come on - you are a teenager, you have your hormones raging, and you can 'touch' and 'manipulate' things and humans telekinetically - wouldn't you at least ONCE test it? They could also have shown how he could hypnotize the women with the 'Jedi trick' (women's minds are usually not very strong, that's why advertising is aimed at them - they often succumb to a strong message or a strong leader, whereas men have resistance), and liking this new power.
They should have SHOWN all kinds of ways to utilize the 'POWER', and how much fun it can be to have power, how corruptive element it can be to a young Jedi apprentice, and so on. They could have shown all the decadence in great detail.
A bit like this movie does - drugs, booze, cigarettes, whores, sluts, parties, fast cars, crime sprees, and even murders.
Star Wars shows us .. "Hey, wanna come to the dark side? There's some "power". - Oh? Sure, ok."
Wow. What a contrast.
Even the good Star Wars-movies only resort to: "If you only KNEW the power of the dark side!". Well, why not SHOW it to us, then? Then we will know! Show us the power, and stop talking about it.. why didn't Darth Vader just bring Luke to his excursions into the 'lifestyles of rich, powerful and aimless', show him some parties and some asian beauties (or whatever is the equivalent in other planets) and things of such nature. But now.. it's just..
"If you only KNEW".. how can I know, if you don't show me? WTF?
This movie did it right.
