DVD RELEASE
I HOPE A RELEASE ON REGION 1 OR 2 IS COMING
shareI bought a DVD from eBay, probably a bootleg but they did a great job of it so I am very happy with it.
shareI also bought a bootleg DVD on ebay, and it's done pretty well. I just got tired of hoping for an official dvd release, and there not being one. It's amazing all the things that are available on dvd, and Nightflyers isn't. I wonder if there is some problem with the studio, rights or something like that....I'm really surprised this hasn't been released yet.
shareThey have remade movies, (and some pretty stupid ones I might add), the latest being War of the Worlds and The Hills Have Eyes.
I personally believe if they remade Nightflyers and made it closer to the book using modern technology it would probably do very well. Oh yes, and it would automatically come out on DVD.
I'm not sure if I would be in favor of a remake, per se', becuase I really love nightflyers and the visual style in which it was made. If it were done closer to the novel, I still don't think it would turn out all that well. I usually end up favoring the movie over novels, though (such as The Keep and Salem's lot). Then again, you never know, the story itself does have the potential to be a huge box office hit. I think hybrid stories of sci-fi/horror have been pretty successfull in the past, with Aliens as the best example.

Lion's Gate and MGM are good bets...but I think either Anchor Bay, Synapse or Blue Underground are more prime candidates for this movie. They would definitely give this a beautiful transfer.
MGM has a reputation of releasing some of their films in full screen...which means they were lazy and only sought out the original VHS master and not the original print. "Sword of the Valiant" is a prime example as well as a few others I can't think of right now.
