Why?

I never really thought about it until I was watching it today but if they didn't know Caleb had been turned, why did they go back for him? It wasn't like they were going to stick around in the area and run the risk of backlash from him for Mae biting him. Hell her biting him didn't even seem to upset him, so there was no issue there. So why did they go looking for him? Also how did they know he'd be stumbling by that field? Mae had no idea where he lived.
