I enjoy this movie too. I just watched it again the other day. My VHS copy is wearing thin, because a DVD hasn't and probably wont be released anytime soon. I enjoyed this movie mainly because I'm a Jon Cryer fan and a horror fan like his character in the movie. What people need to see is that this isn't a knock down hysterical film. It's more like a movie with heart that deals with teens not being able to relate to their parents and throw in a few chuckles here and there. It's a shame that it was rejected by it's creator and director as it has some great moments.

It was rejected by it's creator and director? Why?

It's directed by Alan Smithee. Alan Smithee was a name (until 1999) used by directors, editors, writers, etc when they felt like their vision was not being handled properly and wanted to be the project. It was a catch all name for being disgusted. Even though most people know who the real directors/creators are on alan smithee productions, it would kind of be like hind sight biting you to admit yeah thats my film. I would love to hear commentary and deleted scenes, but just getting a bare bones is the best we can hope for. Unfortunately, lesser known directors/creators that have alan credit can't pull a George Lucas.

I made a slight error in the last post(besides a typo). The movie hasn't been rejected by the creator, only the director. So a cast or writer commentary is still possible.

It has always puzzled me as to why the co-directors Terry Winsor and Paul Aaron dropped their names in favour of the pseudonym Alan Smithee. My sense is that it has less to do with the actual finished movie but perhaps a behind the scenes conflict of interests. I don't know whether this is true or not. Just an observation. It's just that I do recall Jon Cryer citing the movie was not so much a mistake but a disaster. An odd remark to make given the movie is certainly no turkey. It might also explain why the movie was shelved for two years!

I like this movie alot. Funny comedy, good for the whole family! Personally, it brings back a lot of wonderful memories as I grew up in the house where this movie was filmed. My favorite place in the world!
