Reboot needs J.J. Abrams

I just finished watching Super 8...It's the Sci fi version of monster squad. Did anyone else notice it had an extremely similar feel?

I wish there were a way to get him to write and direct it. Not that there needs to be a reboot...Actually why does there need to be a reboot? *beep* it.

Super 8 was pretty good but it felt a little dirivative at times, it took from a lot of 80s movies - I think it had more of a 80s spielburg-esque vibe to it than the goofy b-movie charm of The monster squad though. I'm not big on remakes but if there was one I think Joe Dante would be a good choice for director, his movie 'The Hole' sorta reminded me of those quirky 80s family horror films like The Gate/Monster squad/Lady in white

Just checked out his resume.

I loved Innerspace. I can't find my Gremlins 2 VHS. Now that's bothering me.

Although i've enjoyed some of his movies, I still say JJ Abrams. Actually whoever does the casting in his films, it's probably him...JJ Abrams casting is always amazing. He knows about chemistry. Something many current directors are lacking bigtime.

We can both have our own opinions though because we're two separate brains which have experienced an entirely different life.

Brains are so amazing.

Yeah I like JJ's movies and as you say the kids in super 8 were great , I wouldn't be disappointed if he were to direct a monster squad remake (I'd hope he'd tone down the cgi a little though, he goes a little over board with that stuff), I just think Dante's movies have a fun, imagintive nostalgic quality that would suit "The monster squad", I also think he's good at showing things from a child's perspective without dumbing down or alienating adults. I'd be ok with no remake at all though tbh

I feel the same way...UNLESS...

The remake involves Freddy, Jason, Pinhead, Michal Myers, or Leather face.

Holy crap...That could actually be a great sequel rather than a remake! And it would follow the pattern of old school movie monsters because to todays generation those monsters are just as old as the universal ones.

If only we didn't live in this capitalist society filled with intellectual properties, and copywrite laws.

Actually, now that I think about it they were not able to get the rights to use actual universal characters so that's why they all looked different. Using similar but not actual characters would be fitting.

This needs to happen.

Clever idea

From dream to dream....we have always been, like an ever flowing stream....

The reboot should first be the same monsters they faced in the original then a sequel / part II should come out and be the 80s guys. Freddy Kruger, Jason, Michael Myers, Pinhead, Leatherface, Gremlins, Ghoulies, Critters etc etc. Be lots of fun.

I see no need for a reboot at all.
