I'm surprised Patrick Dempsey's character is Rudy. He looks and acts more like Spaz. Why did they go with Rudy?

I've always thought that, lol. He also kind of looks like Wheels from the original.

He does look like actor Todd Hoffman. I didn't even think of him.

I just always thought of this Rudy as a Spaz wannabe. I wonder if that's what everyone working on the film was expecting, but I guess they made him Rudy because Rudy was technically the main camper, and good friend to Tripper.
