About Mayflower Madam

Mayflower Madam was about a socialite who starts her own business as a madam with Candace Bergen. Chris Sarandon co-stars in it as her wealthy boyfriend, I think he was an lawyer or something. Anyway, she keeps it a secret from him until he finally finds out and tells her that she could go to prison for what she does. One evening they were together at a restaurant, and he told her that he had enough money for the both of them meaning she didn't have to stay in that business but she refused his offer and walked out on him. I mean a good looking, wealthy man who really cared for her and gave her an offer like that and she actually walks out on him. She got everything she deserved, spending some time in prison, and even seeing her ex-boyfriend with another woman.

This movie was based on the book written by the real Sidney Biddle Barrows.

The scenes with the boyfriend telling her he'd take care of her and so forth never happened in real life. They were fictionalized for the movie.

Also, Miss Barrows did not go to prison; she spent less than 1 day in jail.

Correct. In fact, her lawyer called Barrows' sentence "a kiss on the wrist", implying that it was even more lenient than a slap on the wrist. Apparently, there were a LOT of her clients who were wealthy, powerful and influential, and her lawyer was threatening to call all her clients as witnesses, so the powerful men who were her clients got the DA's office to plead her case out with an extremely light sentence.

Sorry, but it was based on the book and she did have some input (pages 283-284 of the original hardcover book). She said they had to downplay the "fun" the girls had because they didn't want to "glamorize" being a call girl.
