Sax Player??

I saw this movie my junior year of HS in History class, about 10 years ago. I was very uninterested in this class and the teacher and I didn't necessarily get along well either. But... The only thing I remember from it was early on in the movie there was a shot of an old black man playing saxophone by a railroad track...does anyone else recall this in the movie or am I just insane (or thinking of a different movie)?? And if you do?? Do you know the actor's name who played this man?
