Is Chris Cooper any relation to Gary Cooper?

I think there is a strong resemblance.

Nope he's sure not. He's got a brother I believe, younger, but don't quote me on that. But Chris was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Charles and Mary Ann Cooper. Gary Cooper was not.

And what's the resemblance? I don't see anything at all. Perhaps sometimes we tend to make ourselves see similarities because of the name, hmm?

Check out Mr. Deeds Goes to Town and tell me there's not a resemblance! He has a very similar voice, and to my eye, is also very similar facially. Ironically, Chris Cooper plays a character with the last name Deeds in Lone Star. But apparently, he's not related. But I still wonder.

It probably makes no difference to you anymore, but Gary was born and raised in Helena Montana and was that rarity in Hollywood having been a REAL cowboy.

Nothing exists more beautifully than nothing.

I see a similarity. The OP is not off base in suggesting there may be a familial connection. It turns out there is not, but I see where he's coming from.

I doubt it. However, considering that Chris has been my favorite actor for several years now, I would have no qualms about comparing his acting ability with that of anyone acting during the Cooper era; any of the best actors of the thirties, forties or fifties. As far as I'm concerned, he can do no wrong.
