Strathairn - good in a gunfight

Was impressed by the firearm handling and adroit maneuvering of David Strathairn's character.
Got a chance to ask John Sayles about that after a screening of Silver City.
Sayles didn't indicate that Strathairn had any particular background in military/police or firearms enthusiasm, but instead chalked it up to his prior experience as a circus performer!
