This movie could be remade with love. I'd keep the same basic script with a few minor changes. (NY instead of Philadelphia) Here is my cast list:

I would slap your face with my glove and challenge you to a duel should I ever meet you in real life for suggesting such a thing.
Remakes should be reserved for films that actually need them. Films that are severely lacking in some way such as budget, effective actors or effects necessary to the story. There is nothing wrong with this movie. It had a strong cast, an adequate budget and no need for more complex effects. There is no reason to remake it.

Just do what they did in the 80s. Remake the same story/concept with different characters and call it a sequel.
