Walk Like an Egyptian

I saw this film in the theater and swear the original credits had Walk Like an Egyptian. And then in the middle of the credits you see the Walk....
Am I misremembering?

I just saw it on Starz, and also thought the opening theme was different. I thought it was a different song, though when I looked up what I thought it was, that song came out a few years after this movie...

I know shows from that time, and even until fairly recently, found the need to replace music from the original broadcast; because they couldn't working out the writes for redistribution.
I'm not sure I would have expected that for a movie though; movies coming out on VHS would have been a common thing by '87 - although maybe it wasn't quite common enough yet, that they hadn't given thought or put in place a deal to use the music in perpetuity.

Yes you're misremembering

Oh no, I also remember very clearly Walk Like an Egyptian being the title song. I recently bought the blu ray and noticed immediately that the song was changed. I came here to find out why, but I don't see anything but this so far. I DID find a review online that confirms the ORIGINAL song, just as I remembered it.

I remember Walk like an Egyptian being in the movie as well. As I recall, this is how I first encountered the song.

edit: I just watched the intro and the other song is probably the actual intro. Musically the songs have some similarity, plus the whole egyptian overlay. I wont be sure until I see a vhs copy, but im thinking im misremembering it.

As a young teenager I was heavily obsessed with this film when I first saw it on home VHS rental in 1988. At least in the UK it absolutely didn't, ever, have 'Walk Like An Egyptian' on the soundtrack.

I'm sympathetic to the mistake, however, because I also remember thinking that the Bangles song would have made a good inclusion to the film. I'm pretty sure there's a bit during the 'Do You Dream About Me' montage where Emmy strikes a 'Walk Like An Egyptian' pose for Jonathan (i.e. the same stereotypical dance image the Bangles used - not suggesting it was copied from their video), which may have helped tie the two things together in your memory.

You're wrong. That song was never in the film at any point. Deal with it.

Walk like an Egyptian was definitely playing during the opening credits! I remember it very clearly as I was obsessed with this movie as a child and would watch it at least once a month. We only had a copy that was taped from t.v. (a free hbo weekend I'm guessing) so I don't know why it's different now/different originally? But you are not misremembering. Some version of this movie at some point in time had that song playing during the credits.

I can make a guess. I can testify that on UK home video releases in 1987/88 it *definitely* didn't have the Bangles track on the credits - but I note you recorded it from a TV broadcast.

It's not unknown for music to be changed depending on rights issues - around the same time I had 'Weird Science' on home video. When the BBC broadcast the film had the Roy Orbison song 'Pretty Woman' was in the scene where Lisa goes into the shopping mall. On my video that scene had the Oingo Boingo 'Weird Science' song.

That stuff still happens now, here and there - so I'd suggest that, maybe, the difference is down to a music rights issue.

Mind you, I always thought the words and tone of the Belinda Carlisle song seemed to fit the opening of the film in a way that 'Walk Like An Egyptian' wouldn't have - but then I would think that, never having known any different.

All you guys remembering that The Bangles hit in this movie, remember wrong.
The Bangles Filmography: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1692733/
Notice how Mannequin is not on that list?

reply

I saw it in the theater and it always had the Belinda Carlisle song.

Never happened people .....

Yep, was always the Belinda Carlisle song in the opening. I saw the movie in the theater and clearly remember hearing it and commenting to my friend that that was the lead singer from the Go-Go's.

there is a beat in the belinda carlisle song that appears in the song that sounds like on from walk like an egyptian.
