Man on Fire (1987) re-titled Without Mercy, which I have, why change it?

I have this on Video, and it is a red cover w/ Joe Pesci & Danny Aiello on the front & back, also stars Scott Glenn & Brooke Adams, so this IS the same movie, just under a different title...

does anybody know WHY they did this, is it because it's not the original Vestron video, but a Pacific video re-release?

I'd like to know, so thanks in advance....
