I wonder if this inspired Scott to make Revenge (1990)

Scott was originally supposed to direct this movie but got replaced. His 1990 movie Revenge with Kevin Kostner has a similar basic plot of vengeance (the circumstances are wildly different of course). I can't help but wonder if this was his way to make the revenge movie he never got to make (at that time).
If so, as a fan of Revenge (1990) and original MoF I would've loved to have seen his 80's version of Man on Fire.
