Why was Elmo on TV?

I understand musicians will often plug an album before it's released. After all, it boosts album sales. But that usually only happens with established bands.

Elmo, as far as I could tell, was recording a pretty good album, but he was still unknown. Why would he be featured on TV and go through all those interviews? He was still a nobody as far as I can tell. His big album, the one that would propel him to fame, hadn't been released yet. Still, there he was giving interviews on TV.

This part didn't make sense.

He had a lot of "outside" help (think Emmet and that angel guy from Halo records).

I see.

Though I thought the angel guy was no longer an angel, as he'd been sent to earth as a new soul.
