DVD special features...

If or when it is released on DVD, will the special features include the film's original ending before the studio forced the director to re-edit the ending because it was considered too ambiguous?

I have this movie on vhs, watched a million times and never even knew it had an alternate ending. Anyone know what the original ending was?

I worked as a grip on this movie. We shot an ending where just as (Mike) Timothy Hutton recognizes (Annie) Kelly McGillis in passing on a city street, a car driven by Shark (Ric Ocasek) with the "devil woman" Lucille (Ellen Barkin) in the passenger seat hit Mike and smile as they drive off while he lays in the street. I wasn't sure if Alan Rudolph intended this as the ending with Mike dead (we did a big crane up shot of him laying in the street) or if it would have ended with a long pull back from a hospital room with the bandaged Mike and Annie dancing to "We Never Danced." We shot that as well on a sound stage in Atlanta. I was didn't like the ending that was in the release of the film, I heard studio brass made Rudolph shoot the new ending after some negative test screenings. There were also a lot of other great scenes we shot about both Mike and Annie's life that never made the final cut. It was to have been a much longer film. I hope that someday this great little movie gets what it deserves, a proper release with the director's long cut as an option on DVD or whatever format lies ahead.

Your experiences working on the film ar fascinating. I imagine a huge number of movies made these days get alternate endings and beginnings, and middles... it's all about the test audiences, right? Directors can't make the movies they want if they're not going to squeeze every last cent out of them!

I would hope there could be a director's cut, with the original ending as an option, and all possible variations. Plus, like Monet's painting in Vanilla Sky, I'm intrigued by the beautiful painting of the two figures dancing. Any idea where I could find a print?? I think I may start a new topic to inquire about this.

I'd love to see all alternative endings/deleted scenes. I rented this movie along with another movie called "Maxie", when my mother came to visit me for the weekend. That following Monday she died in a car accident.

For obvious reasons, both these movies have stuck with me over the years and I would love to have a copy of both when/if they come out on DVD.

I found this movie on www.WBshop.com to purchase on DVD, but purchased it even cheaper through www.amazon.com. This edition is really a glorified/remastered VHS to DVD transfer. The only other feature it has is the movie trailer. However, for me until the official DVD comes out (if it ever does), this is the next best thing.

That's interesting. Every thing about the staging seemed to indicate the car hitting him right as their eyes met. It was very weird to have him disappear, cut to Emmett, and then have him back there. It kinda looks like they had to use scenes from earlier in the film and then dubbed new lines where the mouths aren't moving.
