This wasn't a bad movie

I do agree that Tarantino borrowed the basic essence of the plot and details (the heist, the suits, some dialogue) to mesh out a sorta calatogue of the heist film's greatest hits. It's not "wrip off" like some folks say, more of a homage. Even though I say those words with a degree of hesitation given Tarantino's track record borrowing form other films.

Reservoir Dogs to me is still his best film because of the character's dynamic relationships and while City On Fire is a perfectilly fine film for the genre, it doesn't hold up as well in repeated viewings like RD does.

Man, I hope Tarantino doesn't touch elements of Battle Royale in whatever he's working on next, that would be a crime.

Well said dude, City on Fire is a fine film and I sometimes even find it to be a little better than Reservoir Dogs, and I myself don't find it to be a wrip off, of City on Fire but a tribute/homage to it.

And yes if Tarantino or any other filmmaker was to copy Battle Royale would imediatly suck.

It would be a homage if Tarantino gave the due creadit to this film but as it is now he took direct scenes from it and barely ever talks about this movie. Personally I like it alot more then Reservoir Dogs, since I feel the out of synch story telling of Reservoir Dogs never really intoduces the characters.

Tarantino payed homage to Battle Royale in Kill Bill vol.1.
Gogo is played by Chiaki Kuriyama, who Tarantino first saw in Battle Royale, and the bit where blood streams from her eyes is a refference to battle Royale.

Personnally I didn't think much of Battle Royalle, it was an alright movie, but it was just complete *beep* compared to the novel. It would have been so much better if they just made the movie 3+ hours long and actually included the plot of the novel (and no, the plot was not just about death).

Jesus didn't cut the grass, he just got all melodramatic and martyrific and sat in it

You know, i'm getting a little sick of Tarantino's 'homages'

How about some original ideas.

Sorry this response is a few years late!

How about some original ideas, you say.

Well art from the beginning of time has always been influenced from the art that came before it. This happens in music and film all the time. Cave men painting on walls, was followed by lots of other cavemen painting on walls before mankind started to use other methods. The pictures got more advanced and started to tell basic stories. Everything produced today is influenced at least in some way to something else, and what is wrong with that?

There is another side that I have issues with where you have filmmakers doing sequels, that add nothing new, and remakes of films that are worse then the original. Why? Money.

Too late. Ever see KB?

It's all over the place, the last 20 minutes were great, but the rest of the movie is not always on the same level. Obviously Reservoir Dogs aged better.
