Felix Leiter

On watching TLD again recently I don't believe that the character should have appeared in the film at all. He only has a very minor part and with the character of Saunders and Pushkin already there as Bonds allies the role just seems surplus to the plot. Any one else agree?

Not only do I agree, but this was also the worst portrayal of Leiter in my opinion. I think my favorite is either Jack Lord in Dr. No or David Hedison in Live and Let Die, but John Terry's Leiter in this movie was incredibly dull and lifeless.

I'm guessing that they brought back the Leiter character (who we hadn't seen since Live and Let Die, not counting Bernie Casey's version in Never Say Never Again) to coincide w/ Timothy Dalton's debut. I guess that they wanted to reassure to people that the more things change the more other things "stay the same" (or familiar) so to speak.
