Dalton and Craig are two different Bonds

"Dalton was the original realistic Bond. Craig is just a clone"
"Craig did exactly what Dalton did, except way better"

I truly hate these comments because their portrayals of the character were very different. Yes, it's true both have a darker portrayal of the character but just because both Bonds are violent doesn't mean one supercedes the other. Moore and Connery were both Bonds with charm and humor, but I wouldn't that Connery was obsolete or that Moore was a clone.

Their characters have a number of differences.

Dalton was a tall, dark and handsome ; Craig was short, thuggish, blonde and sexy in his own way.

Dalton was more prudish ; Craig was more of a lustbomb, eager to show off his great body.

Dalton was able to portray the character with a lightness and somewhat of an enjoyment of recreation ; Craig's character had a certain bloodlust about him which wouldn't let him enjoy anything.

Dalton was more energetic, theatrical and expressive ; Craig was more stoic and hardened.

Dalton was able to take a woman out to a carnival and carry a big teddy bear ; Craig's character was more rugged and masculine.

Re: Dalton vs. Craig

Dalton has a much better smile.

Dalton is a better actor and at least one of his Bond films was from the classic era and had John Barry music. I find the approach taken with the Bond films in the post-Cold War era not to my taste. I know, I know... "OK, Boomer!" (Gen-Xer actually). Daniel Craig I find a bore as Bond... although I thought he was good in "Knives Out". Just don't like him as Bond. I didn't like Brosnan as Bond either but thought he was good in "The Ghost Writer" and "The Tailor of Panama". How would Sanchez have put it? "It's nothing personal, it's strictly business."

IMO, Dalton is the best Bond, but he had mediocre films.

Craig is a good actor, but I don't like him as Bond.

Lazenby could have grown into the role.

Moore is the Bond of my youth, so I like him.

I find Connery thuggish and cloddish , much as Fleming did, but he cleaned up nicely and set the foundation for the character.

i like Dalton but think he also lucked out with the script for Licence to Kill (which is an AWESOME bond film)

Craig is great but he suffers from the writers being complete fuck-ups..
