Saw it only once in its theatrical release but never forgot the scene...

...near the end of the film between Gena Rowlands and Joan Jett. Wonder if it would still feel as powerful today. Sometimes a scene or line of dialogue can stick with you for years.

I was just thinking of this scene myself. My own mother is battling cancer and is often in the hospital so the scene is poignant for me.

Dammit Carol Sue, where is the vodka?!

Watched the film for the first time in 1987 when I was 11 or 12, that scene had a huge impression on me then, memories of it haunted me when my father was dying of cancer, and I watched Light Of Day again a few days ago for the first time since 1987, and the scene was just as powerful now as it was then, even more so, because of the lifetimes I've lived between then and now.

That must be the scene where the mother (Gena Rowlands) is dying of cancer in the hospital. I remember that too. The director, Paul Schrader, said that character was based on his mother, so I assume his mother died of cancer the same way.
