Explosion (major spoilers)

At the end, when Pablo hurls the typewriter out into the yard, it explodes and sets the container alight. But what makes it explode and catch fire? Although there's a fire just beginning in the apartment, the machine doesn't seem to be on fire when he hurls it and typewriters don't contain anything heavily flammable.

Mr.Hitler has made life very difficult for Shakespearian companies.

I wondered the same thing, I assumed it was for effect and symbolic. The typewriter which had caused much of the drama going up in flames with the death of Antonio. The flames reflected in the altar to Mary again showing we don't always get what we pray for or desire.

Sorry, this reply contains no answer I'm afraid!

But thank you for asking the question- it put my mind to rest that I'd not missed something..(did I blink when someone hid an explosive, or even just a bottle of spirits in the typewriter? -No, it seems not). It was late when I caught this on Film four last night, and was tired.. I feared I had nodded off at some crucial point!

So equal thanks to the above reply... it was purely symbolic.. thank you. I'm happy with that...

It is indeed symbolic, over the top and hilarious. It was a very amusing and incendiary scene.
