Anyone else find this lame and boring?

The costumes and camera work were pretty good, but I found the story pretty lame and so slowly paced and fragmented that I couldn't resist napping.

On the contrary - I found the movie enjoyable to watch. Not all movies need to have the speed of 'Crank'.

Sometimes you need to be in the right mood to watch a slower movie such as this one.

how can you have an opinion if you napped through it?

try rewatching it when you're a bit older

Yes the pacing was a bit off I thought, but it was well done otherwise.

Slow-paced could be a criticism by some viewers, but where did you come up with fragmented? With the exception of some well-executed flashbacks, the movie pretty much follows a chronological history of China in the last century through the eyes of the the last emperor.

No. I think the story and the entire movie are fascinating - especially because the story is basically true. This movie will stick with me for the rest of my life, as a haunting tale of how the unstoppable and often brutal forces of history, and a man's ambition and weaknesses, upend the throne of even one who ruled allegedly by divine right over the largest kingdom in the world. The lessons in the movie, and the story, are not gratifying or happy - but they are good lessons to learn for the sake of wisdom.

Zoomorph, try watching it again when you're all growed up.

I found it boring as a child. I appreciate it more rewatching it now. I actually just finished watching a chinese tv show about the empress dowager and then at the end it deals with Pu Yi. The tv show was more exciting and dramatized but less professional as it has alot of soap operish elements.

People praise the outfits in this movie but if you watch chinese tv shows the costumes and palaces etc are all a feast for the eyes. The ones in this movie might well be more accurate and the palaces more authentic and run down but they were totally depressing to look at. Having seen the imperial headress in official historical photos i can say that neither the movie nor the tc shows are accurate. The tv show headresses are pretty and the movie ones are ugly and exaggerated in a westerner type of way.

Fattycakes: There's a good reason the "palaces are more authentic."
