Johnson was flawed but a great President

And I say that as a moderate Republican. His great flaw of not seeing that the old ways of gun diplomacy did not work in jungle warfighting hides the unbelievable good that he did do. He got not one, but two Civil Rights Acts passed, the first a toothless version in the 50's (but still, the first time it went down on paper) and the second in the 60's with Federal power to back it up. He got Medicare, Medicaid, Environmental, and Housing Acts passed. The type of legislation he was passing was along the idea of making people viable to hold jobs and support themselves, not the later Democratic version of handing people money to have children and watch Oprah. I think he enacted many ideas that were Kennedy's but Kennedy could never have gotten them passed in a million years because he was all show - Johnson was sweat and tears. Although Johnson may have wished Kennedy dead, I do not believe he had anything to do with the assasination. If I would support any conspiracy theory, it would be a bug put in the ear of Oswald by either the Mafia or the Soviets, both incredibly powerful enemies. But I still think Oswald acted alone, influenced perhaps by ideology, but alone.
