An average film with some very interesting touches
Chow's acting was definitely the best part about this film; everything else was fairly medicore. That said, Joe Cheung's direction was pettty damn good, but the gunfights were quite average, which was a suprise for a HK film, least of all one starring Chow Yun-Fat. The kid getting shot was a nice suprise though, and one which I didn't see coming. But I think the real interest here, and the only thing that lifts the film out of another attempted heroic bloodshed film territory, is the homoeroticism. Very interesting chemistry between Chow and Alan, and it wasn't particularaly subtle either. Anyway, it was an average film with some very intersting touches that managed to make it fairly confident.
