Am I the only one that gets the title meaning?

Everyone laughs that the title means the shark is getting its revenge on the Brody’s. But am I the only who gets that the title is clearly about Ellen Brody getting her revenge on the shark? The entire movie is about her snapping after all ththe shark related deaths in her immediate family and going on a merciless goose chase to brutally kill this final shark. The “revenge” and the “this time it’s personal” is not being said by the shark, it’s being said by Ellen Brody. Hell, she even says “this time it’s personal” in the movie! That should be the biggest indicator of them all that it’s HER revenge.

Revenge on what shark? Its a different shark in each movie

Revenge on the shark that kills her son at the beginning of the movie?

reply

So it's like a western set at sea.

In the original script the Brody family had annoyed a voodoo guy and he placed a curse on them and due to their history with sharks one comes after them. That's why Ellen speaks to Michael Caine's character about voodoo and it also explains why the shark just targets the Brody's.

reply

This was not in the screenplay (I have a copy of it). That was an invention of the writer of the novelization. But it does not originate from the script.

reply

Oh right fair enough thanks for the correction.

reply

Still, its interesting. Thanks for the info.

The shark actually traveled to target the Brody's specifically.

reply

That's the premise and Ellen believes it to be so.

reply

Yeah and that’s stupid but what is the shark possibly getting revenge for? I guess he’s related to the other sharks or something?

It’s Ellen’s revenge, not some random Shark that has no history with Ellen to even have revenge for.

Supposedly, the shark in "Jaws 2" is the sister of the first shark. The shark in "Jaws 3-D" is their mother and the shark in "Jaws: The Revenge" is the father. So, it becomes a family of sharks against a family of people.

reply

In the Jaws 2 novel, the shark 'remembers' meeting the shark from the first film, implying they mated rather than were siblings. She's pregnant, but I can't remember if the writer is trying to sell her pups will be offspring of both. Four years would be a hella long gestation.

I had a feeling that was what your link would be.

Actually the true meaning is this:

The writer was plagued by people talking during every single Jaws viewing he ever had. He tried three times to see Jaws 1 in the theater and there were rampant talkers each time. The same with Jaws 2 and 3. So he wrote this one to get revenge on the Jaws audience.

😂

Nah, that shark was out for revenge. It seemed to have set a trap for Sean Brody. Then it followed them to the fucking Bahamas.
