Why would the shark blow up?

If he had been simply impaled?

Yeah the ending where Jake dies is a lot better than the crap they put in the movies. I can't believe that's what they put in the movie and then actually had the money to go back to change it. It's like they ran out of money for the final scene.

Someone should edit Jake living with the boat falling apart in the crappy ending but the shark dying by being impaled and sinking to the bottom. That would be the best of both endings.

reply

No, Jake should die, hell yeah

reply

My guess that device they put in the shark, but still hard to buy. As other said the impalement death is better, plus it matches the old Nintendo video game.

reply

Because the Universal execs were morons.

1. They wanted a big ending.
2. They didn't want to pay for it though.
3. So they could recycle footage from Jaws.
4. Maybe they figured the audience would of assumed it blew up due to Jake's crapped out gear ot swallowed?

Lol to be in that office that day.

Just saw it on TV in the UK and thought the ending was bizarre. The shark was impaled by the bow of the boat which broke apart and sunk with the shark. You have to assume the people on board the boat will be at risk of drowning, but then it cuts to show them all safe at a different location on land.

At least your UK showing had the "correct" climax, although as you said, it was bizarre enough on its own. At least it was realistic in the sense that it is possible for a shark to die from impalement, but it is not possible for a shark to explode from impalement. How I wish my DVD had the simple impalement, not the explosion, and that it had been made somewhat darker by the loss of Jake's character... this, imo, would have given this lightweight film just a little more gravitas.

Have you never gone shark fishing? One of the most challenging parts is catching a shark without rupturing its Fulminatory Gland. If that ruptures then the entire shark blows up like it was hit by dynamite.

reply

You're confusing sharks with dragons again!

reply

Before he lands in the ocean, Hoagie mentions that he's calling in their position so they can be rescued. And he does, so you're to assume that's how they got back to land.

reply

Lol at "Jake's crapped out gear", thank you. I always assumed that's what made the shark explode though.

When your that far into a movie of this quality, you really shouldn't be asking sensible questions at this point ;)

Seriously though, not one thing in the movie makes sense. It's unbelievable

reply

It was trying to suicide bomb the boat.
