Here are some movies that made me laugh as much as Ishtar.
Bedazzled (1967) The Magic Christian (1969) The Return of the Pink Panther (1975) (be careful not to confuse this with Revenge Of or other titles) Pandemonium (1982) Noises Off... (1992)
If you like old movies, you might try It's a Gift (1934) The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942) Mr. Hulot's Holiday (1953)
Thank you for letting me know more movies. I watch old movies when TV stations show them because there are too many and I'm not sure which ones are good. I'll look for the ones you recommended later. Thanks.
I just finished watching Ishtar on TCM tonight and I was laughing out loud. Many of the movies, listed by previous posters here, are crack ups as well. I loved the scene at the market with all the differant agents. Funny stuff. You have good taste in comedies.
Also really enjoyed Ishtar, discovered it on DVD years after being scared away by all the jokes and haters. Very fun road movie, two '80s movie icons not taking themselves so seriously and having a blast.
Two more buddy/road movies from that '80s period that are a lot of fun: 1) Midnight Run - Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin 2) Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - Steve Martin and Michael Caine
Peter Sellers' Being There, the original The Ladykillers with Alex Guiness (definitely not the Coens unfortunate remake) and Paul Newman's best ever in my opinion Nobody's Fool and a few more a bit more raucous, Peter Bogdanovich's What's Up,Doc?, and Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles and let me add one mentioned by estella2 by the magnificent writer of Istar, Elaine May, A New Leaf which I have attempted to find at an affordable price and have frustratedly "saved" on Netflix for well over two years. bon appetit
Ishtar is an action adventure comedy. Firewalker (1986) is a comedic action adventure. It also has basic production values and story but great chemistry between the characters/actors. A poor man's Indiana Jones. And don't be scared of Chuck. He's a nice guy here.
I loved Ishtar. I had some real big laughs while watching it, even though the critics thumbed their noses at it. It has a serio-comic presentation that I thought was very funny and with the cast of Beatty, Hoffman and Charles Grodin you can't go wrong. Here are some of my favorite comedies: Ruthless People (1986); Down and Out In Beverly Hills (1987), My Cousin Vinny, Ghostbusters.
