Symbolism

Through out the movie there are sly little "Easter Eggs" of symbolism. A few examples, Fran's shadow walking ahead of him when he's cutting through the alley (getting ahead of himself) and the smoke stack blowing steam above his head in the hobo camp when he's beating up the other bum. He's literally "blowing his stack".

Can anyone name some others?

Okay, here's a few more I noticed..

The ratty fur on Helen's coat is mirrored by a swath of pink fabric in the same spot on her bathrobe. Also the night scene on Helen's robe represents she's at the end of her life. (Remember, Annie shows Fran their grandson's room that "get's the morning sun", he's at the beginning of his life.

Rudy sleeping on the street in front of the display window with a posh bed in it was also interesting. There's only glass seperating him physically from that bed, but it might as well be a million miles.
