Remake Innerspace??? Why not!

Okay I know that in this time we have had one to many remakes of old films and its only a matter of time till we start remaking 80's films (as long as they don't touch The Breakfast Club I am fine w/ the idea) and there are a few that could have great remakes w/ the SFX that we have now. I say Innerspace is one of the movies that should be remade if they did start doing 80's. The cast??? Well, lets see Ryan Reynolds (Waiting..., & Van Wilder) should play Jack (and not in the same way as Short played him) and Edward Nortin (Fight Club, Death To Smoochie) as Tuck wouldn't be such a bad idea or hell since most of it is Tuck drunk or just talking why not Billy Bob Throton (Sling Blade, Bad Santa)? He plays a great drunk and his voice is perfect for the part. As for Lidia, I am not sure. As I said before there will be remakes of the 80's movies that we all loved watching while we were growing up and there are a select few that wouldn't be bad to have a remake of as long as the people involved have a love for the original.

Here's my choices for the roles:
Tuck: Owen or Luke Wilson
Lydia: Reese Witherspoon or Kate Winslet
Pete: Bruce Willis or Billy Bob Thorton
Scrimshaw: David Warner (star treks 5 & 6, titanic)
Doctor Margaret Canker: Susan Sarandon (step-mom)
Igoe: Dolph Lundgren (rocky 4 & he-man)
Ozzie: Anthony Michael Hall (breakfast club)
Dream Lady: Bea Arthur (golden girls)
Mr Wormwood (grocery manager): Hector Elizondo (chicago hope)
The Cowboy: Scott Grimes (er)
Jack's Doctor: Earl Boen (terminators 2 & 3)

as for the breakfast club, I take a line from "The Emperor's New Groove":

Ben Affleck will by that-one-airforce-dooche...

Keira Knightley will be Meg Ryan's hot character...

and Martin Short's prick character will be played by.... hmm.... dare I say... Chris Rock?

I think this film was well made, great FX, nice actors... and it's a fun movie... I'm afraid a remake may be worst...

reply

Why not? I'll tell you why not. Because most remakes are absolute crap. There is not one single original idea in Hollywood anymore so all these so-called filmmakers keep doing is ripping off older films, either by using the idea or remaking the film itself. It's an atrocious pestilence that needs to be done away with. I'm so sick of these God-awful remakes that do nothing but tarnish the name of the originals. It's stupid, it's lazy and it's totally unnecessary.

Just give us Inner Space, remastered and on Blu Ray please.

Also, You can't remake Meg Ryan. Even Meg Ryan can't remake Meg Ryan.

reply

Yes, that's what I was thinking too.
Please DON'T remake this !

reply

Please don't remake Meg Ryan. I'm glad she's retired and we don't need another sexless, lipless wench with shoulder pads.

reply

Say it isn't going to happen- INNERSPACE (which was not exactly a hit) is already funnier and more surprising than any remake could attempt. So many great actors and crew put so much into it at the time.

I don't think we live in a society that can accept movies like this anymore. I don't think people can accept stuff like this unless they are watching an older movie.

The 80s were also a good time for this kind of feel good cheese. IT's like it can't be duplicated anymore.

Funny thing is, everyone here is forgetting the fact that this movie is essentially a remake of "The Fantastic Voyage". I believe the question(s) should be:
1. Remake Innerspace?
2. Remake Fantastic Voyage?
3. Take the approach of Fantastic Voyage and create a modern-day "Spiritual Sequel" That some would argue Innerspace was to Fantastic Voyage. New plot, new problems, the only thing that remains the same is a submarine is miniaturized and put inside a human body.
