Mr. Igoe Vibrator Hand

Hi,

Can anyone here settle an argument about a possible scene that was in the film. Someone has told me that he remembers a scene where the Henchman 'Igoe' is seen about to use a vibrator hand attachment on a female character. It sounds ridiculous, but this person seriously believes that he saw this (probably over 10 years ago). I do not remember seeing this scene, but it may be that the version I saw was cut.

Cheers

It's in there, but just barely...when the redheaded villain is in bed, Mr. Igoe takes something off his hand (can't remember what) and baaaaarely off-camera you see him installing a certain apparatus.

True, there is the scene. He attaches a vibrator, turns it on and we hear it's buzzing sound. That was pretty funny.

reply

I caught the film this morning. That is just...yikes. I didn't want to believe it. I was like, 'They didn't, did they?' I guess they did.

And again, yikes.

reply

It's pretty damn funny scene. And also admirably brave creative decision from the filmmakers.
Would the Hollywood execs let something like that come out in a family movie nowadays?

reply

They talk about it briefly on the commentary and say it was cut on TV versions, hilarious scene though which you don't get when you first see it, then you come back years later and see it again and 'woah' hehe

reply

Saw it one Sunday afternoon and this scene was still in it...laughed my ass off.

its a brilliant touch
Was that a joke?

Yeah, when I first saw this movie I was probably around 6 or 7, so I definitely wouldn't have gotten the joke then. I just watched the movie about an hour ago, and even though it's a *very* short scene (the whole scene is maybe 10 seconds long, the vibrator part is maybe 1 second of it) I saw it through new eyes. I didn't really pay attention to the attachment at first, as it's mostly off-camera, but after the buzzing started, I had to scroll back and see if I was right about what it was. Yep, sure enough... I guess Igoe losing a hand wasn't such a bad thing after all, eh? It seems to have many uses...

I have no enemies, but am intensely disliked by my friends.

I wonder which TV version was cut? This was my favorite movie from 1988-1993 and I have on vhs tape still the original broadcast premiere from... 1989.. I can't remember if it was ABC,CBS or NBC but the scene is on there! I also have a showing of it from KCOP in 1993 and the scene is there, too but the "I'm possessed" line was cut.

I have recordings of it from 5 different times and the scene is all on there! very weird they would let that slide.

Today, that one scene alone could have bumped up the filmrating. Of course, in 1987 (the year of Innerspace's theatrical release) the "PG-13" rating was still three years new to the MPAA and it's perimeters were still in flux. That's probably why "Innerspace" was still able to get a "PG" in 1987.

Today, any family sci-fi comedy with an inclusion of a vibrator gag would bring any film into a "PG-13" territory no matter what. Times have changed . . .

That having said, the scene is there and it is funny!

I didn't notice that!!

But the funny thing is... I was actually thinking during that scene, I wonder if he could do that, turn his hand into a vibrator... haha me and my dirty mind.

(I'm aware this is an old thread)

Having just seen the scene you are referring to, I believe the henchman does indeed fit a 'vibrator-like' attachment to his hand, after having just removed his corkscrew attachment and poured two glasses or wine.

The actual attachment is never focussed on by the camera and it can only be seen briefly at the bottom of the screen. There is however a very clear buzzing sound that can be heard as he starts to move towards the female character... :P

reply

Yes, it was there. LOL @ the PG rating. You probably saw the TV version.

It actually, in a bizarre way, reminded me of a scene in The Mummy. When Imhotep has his tongue cut out. The camera angles/directing technique was similar.
Innerspace: Igoe attaches the vibrator.
The Mummy: The medjai pickes up the knife.

Innerspace: Igoe moves toward the female.
The Mummy: The medjai moves toward Imhotep.

Innerspace: Igoe's back passes in front of the camera, blocking the view.
The Mummy: The medjai's back passes in front of the camera, blocking the view.

Innerspace: Cuts to another scene.
the Mummy: Imhotep screams. Cuts to another scene.

Part of what I always liked about this movie is the variety of humor it has in it. It's got slapstick, one-liners, and even some dirty humor.

It's very funny. This movie is great because there is the more obvious slapstick stuff yiu notice as a kid, but some good adult humor too.
