How did they do the scene of Martin Short standing on the car?

Several scenes of the car chase, it looks like its really Martin Short in some of the stunts, and particularly the part where he's like standing on the windshield, balancing. How the heck did they achieve that, pre-CGI? Its flawless.

my guess, the magic of cables. with the brightness of outside and the constant moving, they'd likely easily be "covered" and never noticed the way cables in old movies tend to these days.

another possibility is camera tricks, maybe he actually has a more sturdy foothold and rest then the camera lets us see from that angle.

or could be a combination of both.

Probably so... i was thinking there might be some metal rod attached the car, going upwards through his pants.... Like he's actually sitting/standing on a metal plate, attached to a pole attached to the car.

that makes sense too and seems less of a hassle to accomplish so yeah...ur probably right or close. lol

You're right. If you look in slow motion, around 1:07:37, you can see briefly a metal structure behind his right leg.

The effects and stunts in this movie are all excellent, and a reminder of how much better things were before CGI.
