No gore - was it cut?

So I recently rewatched this movie and found that ( atleast with my copy) there is no gore. Not a drop of blood. It cuts away where there should be an attack or will just show the bloodless aftermath.

Was there a censored cut version released or is this how the movie was filmed?

Yeah but the movie within a movies transformation scene was well done, as was the fetus dream scene. But in general there was little gore yes, and I believe it has to do with the budget. Usually if the sequels are being filmed back to back, they end up putting all the money and time and effort into the 2nd, and leaving whatever's left to to the 3rd, making a huge leap in quality downward. It almost always happens - the feast sequels being a good example, also sleepaway camp 2/3, and even back to the future 2/3. It happened here with howling 2&3 as well.

"Howling II" and "Howling III" were not shot back to back. They were entirely separate productions that only share the same director. "Howling II" was shot in 1984 [released in Europe in 1985 and America in 1986] and "Howling III" was shot in 1987. According to Mora, the budget for "Howling III" was 5 million dollars and got that much because "Howling II" had been so successful on VHS.

It's just the way Phillipe Mora wanted the film to be. This one was more about characterization than gore effects.
