DVD- long long long overdue

Come on

This is a film with a dedicated cult following.

I saw it very late one night on Channel 4 in the UK.

I was enraptured by the film.

But so many years have elapsed since I saw it, that I nolonger trust my memory.

It is plain ridiculous that there has been no DVD re-release thus far.

Someone is missing an opportunity, that's for certain.

reply

Agreed. Who owns rights? Maybe an email campaign needs to be started. In desperation I purchased a "repaired" vhs off ebay. It is missing the opening credits but otherwise does the job.

reply

It was on channel 5 Sat 10/03/07 (UK), sorry if this is post transmission and my condolences to our US and Canadian cousins.

I just noticed it in the TV guide while checking the Rugby kick-off times and there it was Housekeeping C5 3.10pm, so in went a DVD and on went the timer.

I just watched it last night and it was better than I remember from the first time, I'm now glad that I checked the TV guide, thank god for the Six Nations keeping me in on a Saturday afternoon.

I came on to check imdb after seeing this again, I too saw it late one night on C4 years back and have looked for it on DVD and came on here after my interest was piqued after seeing it again.

It's not sentimental or schmaltzy or tacky it's got feeling and warmth and majestic scenery.

I am in Australia, and I too have been searching for this film on DVD. I remember Christine Lahti's performance when the film was first released here, and I was blown away at the time. If anyone is aware of its availability on DVD, I would love to know about it !

reply

Maybe a bit late, but for viewers in the UK this film is on C5 today (22/01/08) at 13.30.

reply

It was just in time for me, so thank you Andrew. I got one of those hard drive recorders for Christmas so I can hang onto this film for as long as I need to. It's not as good as having it out on DVD, but it'll do :-)

reply

Yes this MUST be released on DVD.

I read the book but I enjoyed the movie so much more!

reply

Blame Columbia Pictures (a.k.a. SONY) for not releasing this film on DVD. I hope the film gets bought by Warner Bros. studios so that it can be released on DVD, just as the film Dolores Claiborne was bought by Warner Bros. from Columbia Pictures.

reply

yeah its unfortunte
none of Bill FOrsyth's films except Local Hero, Gregory's Girl and Breaking in are availble in America. I understand some of them are not American films but I wish they were available (especially this, I love Bill Forsyth, I love Marilynne Robinson, and Ive never seen this film, so...I hope it is released someday.)

reply

You would think that Marilynne Robinson's Pulitzer Prize for "Gilead" and the acclaim for her new book "Home" would shake loose some interest in releasing this wonderful movie.

reply

Amen to that.

Beautifully written, directed, acted, photographed, edited and scored.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I don't know what this movie does to me. I always think about it and wish I were one of the characters in the movie (I assure you I'm mentaly stable ;)

BTW this is my husband's IMDB I'm posting on. He DOESN'T wish he were one of the characters ;)

PLEASE PUT IT ON DVD!!! I have an old VHS copy that I bought when I was in high school but I don't watch it because I don't want it to get ruined. If it never comes out on DVD it will be all I have of this beautiful movie.

reply

You can find a DVD on iOFFER, burned from a VHS tape. Not the best solution, but no body else is doing it.
