I reckon that all the female characters would have benefitted from having males in their lives, but I suppose it was all right for a 'woman's picture'.

'woman's picture' ? I'm an adult male and I enjoyed this, it has an entertaining likeable main character, stunning cinematography and direction by the man who did Local Hero.
