Grandad's House on the River

I love it - looks like a little bit of Eden.

"I love it - looks like a little bit of Eden."

Yes! What a great description. The scenes at Grandad's house are my favorite part of the movie. I would love to live there.

I wonder where that filming location was, which English country side was it?

In fact the film itself turns more interesting and absorbing when story reaches to this house.

I loved when the fish all got blown up in the river. It is a gorgeous place.

I investigated many scenes in Hope and Glory in the mid 1990's while I was working on a historical project on the River Thames. I was able to find several locations but others such as the Granddad's house I believe were sets constructed for the film. I was able to find the weir where they were bombed and got all the fish in Shepperton. There are several small islands there and Mr. Boorman grew up in the area and I believe that is where the island home was built.

My dream house, seriously. I looked up the location once, based on what the family friend says about it being so close to Picadilly (so, it's a suburb of London, even though it's so bucolic).
