best ending ever......

"it was a stray bomb!!!! Thank you Adolf!"

every kid's dream...to come back after summer holidays to find your school bombed!

reply

That really is a bang-up ending--literally.
(Although years ago my elementary school burned down and it was actually kinda sad to see it crumple up in the flames.)

I once had an extended summer vacation when I was 13. It was due to a teachers strike. We got more than a month extra vacation because of it.

And in adult life, the bank is bombed from which you have availed loan!

It was great to actually have a happy ending in a movie with a war going on, but that scene makes me laugh every time I see it.

reply

Yes it is. I love the whole movie but the ending is the cherry on the top. I love films dripping in childhood nostalgia.

If you wanted to get me on my back you just had to ask.

This is one of my favorite endings to a film. The scene is great because the irascible grandfather finally lets his guard down to appreciate the joyous moment with his grandson. Prior to this scene you could believe the old man was incapable of mirth.

reply

Just the way the grandfather is laughing and laughing with such utter delight. No words necessary. Just laughing his head off and then cut to wrap up narration and the end. It was so amazingly perfect. I remember the first time I saw this laughing so hard I thought I was going to die. To this day when I watch the clip on youtube I still laugh myself to tears.
