Funniest Line

My favourite line (being Canadian) was when the Canadian soldier gives the older sister the ring and she says "You expect me to just wait here for the rest of the war and stare at a ring while you meet some French girl who speaks your own language?" LOL. It was just awesome because even though French is an official language here clearly he had been speaking English as his first language. I thought that line was great because it seemed like a realistic thing a sixteen year old naive girl would say.

Number 2 best line is the little boy watching their house burning and asking the ARP man: "Will all my shrapnel melt?" To which the man simply replies: "I shouldn't think so." LOL. This movie did such a good job of getting in the head of children.

I love when the constable is leading the German pilot away from his plane, through the garden, and says "mind the brussels sprouts"!

Grandpa's drunken speech post-Christmas lunch! Superb because it was funny and irreverent but also terribly poignant as he wishes his past amours well, wherever they be.

Second favourite moment/line was the boy who kept asking the poor girl if her mother was dead. He asked it as though he were asking if she had a cold!

I suppose they're still learning. That's why they move around so much. Mummy just lies still and Daddy moves over her. That's what they do when they know how.

My favorite's not the funniest line, but I loved it as it was so poetic:

"...the river beckoned with the promise of stolen days"

*sigh*

"I think you hit him, Grandpa."

(After Grandpa attempts to shoot a rat with a double-barreled shotgun.)

"He was limping when he ran off."

Then the whole family laughed for like ten minutes.
