Didn't enjoy it that much

I watched "The Sky Crawlers" the other day, and I really enjoyed it. So I went looking for similar movies, and many people recommend "Wings" as #1 in the list.

I know this is classic, like "2001 Odyssey", I see a lot of positive reviews, some people even call it the best anime of all times. Still somehow I didn't enjoy it THAT much. The 2nd part of the movie was good, but the 1st part ... Several times I had to force myself to keep watching, it was too slow, too naive and, I don't know, silly. Probably, had I watched this when I was 10 years old, I would have said the movie is awesome. But now, when I have seen a lot of other films in this genre, I'd say it's not as good as many people claim it to be.

Does anyone else feel the same way ?

I just re-watched it for the first time in ages, and, knowing how much my tastes have changed, I was a little surprised that I still enjoyed it so much. Granted, there may be some nostalgia involved, but I liked the slower pace. Sometimes it's nice to slow down once in a while. I give it 8/10.

I need to re-watch Sky Crawlers!
