Where Is This Set In?

Can somebody explain the setting of Honnomease that the story takes place in? The tech level is roughly around the 1940s to 1960s Earth, but it's clearly not our world with drastically different continents, different calendar, and alien alphabets/numerals. And the gadgets, objects and vehicles in that world have developed quite differently (with narrow cylinders instead of flat circles serving as coinage, etc), despite serving familiar functions.

I have a feeling it was set on alien world colonised by humans in the far future: during a cataclysm they broke contact with Old Earth, their original infrastructure established by Earth's interstellar civilization collapsed disastrously (a stone age settlement was found on the launch site) and the human colonists started from scratch, taking millennia to remake their world (ending up with the era this movie takes place, eerily resembling mid 20th Earth through convergent development).

It's just an 'alternate Earth', which is fun for all involved in its production as they can go crazy coming up with new cultures, clothing, and vehicles. Consider Sera, in the Gears of War series, which also features humans on an Earth-like (but not Earth) planet with tech a decade or two ahead of our own and a 26 hour long day.

If your idea pleases you, go with it, but there's nothing to say it's true or false.

Thanks for the reply. Another example of a eerily familiar but also rather alien "Not Earth" inhabited by homo sapiens is the planet Golter from Iain M. Banks' Against a Dark Background.

.

It's a never-when story. Like Steampunk. Maybe Rocketpunk.

A "world that never was".

(That said, aren't most steampunk stories set on an Earth that is recognizable to some degree?)
