Why did she go to them??

In the last battle scene, Gong Li & the maid went to the battle place, apparently to bring them food, even after finding out that the battle wasn't finished from her son. Isn't that abit dumb, considering it was still a dangerous situation to be outside, rather than waiting for them safely at home? or did i missed something?

I see your point. But they knew that the men had been waiting for quite a while and would be hungry, thirsty and tired. So therefore, not ready to do battle. Plus the women bringing food and drink could be taken as psychological support as well. Who knew the Japanese would arrive the same time as the women were bringing food?

I'd guess the women expected there to be more of a warning, noise, etc. if the Japanese army were to arrive at the same time as them.

That said, I'm tired of movies where two things always happen at the same time...seemingly only to support the story.
