Does the bible really say that?

While warning Bill about Mary Lou, the priest pulls out his bible and quotes from it something like...

"If a person dies violently.. (so forth, so on, etc) .. then the soul wanders in pergatory waiting for the opportunity to return!"

Does the bible really say that? If so, anyone know which passage it is?

Well usually when someone dies unexpedicly (suicide, homocide, accident), his spirit stays to haunt.

So I've heard. I know many religions believe in the principle.

I'm just curious if it's actually stated anywhere in scriptures.

You're assuming he was quoting from the Bible. It could very well have been a passage from another religious text or commentary.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he wasn't a great big pansy.

Perhaps you should pick up a Bible and find out for yourself.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

No, it isn't in the Bible. This comes from the Catholic belief in confession. If someone dies without making a confession or receiving last rites, as you might in a violent death, they necessarily had to make up something like purgatory to make the whole scheme make sense. Plus the superstitious idea that the "soul" wouldn't be at "peace".

reply

Purgatory isn't the same as wandering the earth though. Purgatory is where you go if you have unforgiven sins so that you can be cleansed before entering heaven. It's a purification process

I do believe some souls never find rest. Then again, when you're dead, the lights are out; I know this from burying family members and animals.
