Why do so many people hate this film?

Okay, I personally think that Prom Night 2 pales in comparison to the first Prom Night. But PN2 still isn't that bad. I mean, sure the special effects are a little cheap, the film is campy and full of trippy scenes, and it doesn't follow the first PN at all, but it has a really far out 80's and 50's nostalgia thing going, the soundtrack was great (I love the Partland Brothers' Electric Honey album!) the acting wasn't too bad, the film is fun to watch at parties, the Canadian scenery looks so cool, and PN2 beats PN3 and PN4 by a long shot! I understand people not liking the sequel as much as the first one, but why do some people just hate this one so much?

You got me. I've loved this film ever since I caught a glimpse of it on late night tv when I was in the 6th grade (1990) and just had to rent it to get the full picture. Even all these years later, still a stellar classic I think.

I love all the characters each in their own quirky ways. Vickie steals it with, "You shut your f'ing mouth b*!!" Lol, Kelly is the best.

Great film. Love to love it!

Yeah, I really like all the characters in this film, I think they're fun (I find them to be relatable, and I just LOVE the Monica character. Yeah, I know she's a bit salty and vague, but she's my kind of gal, and if Josh can fall for her, so can I!).
Ha, Kelly is terrible, but yet great at being terrible!

I feel the same way about the film. It's it's own thing, I think, and Mary Lou Maloney is scary awesome here; talk about a force of nature! Nah, I only viewed this film and "Prom Night"; they are so different, it's like Prom Night and day.

It needs a proper Blu Ray release, Scream Factory should really do this one! Also Part 3(uncut) and part 4 by Vestron would be cool as well.

reply

Oh, I forgot about Part 3 (I think all these films are so unique that calling them sequels is unusual in and of itself:-). It's been a long time since I viewed that one. Kind of silly fun if I recall.
Vestron, is that company still in operation?
Scream Factory can be counted on for cool releases (I'm the same person who thinks "The Angel Collection" is a good idea. Well, at least the first two films!).

reply

Vestron is actually Lionsgate but they've been releasing a lot of older cult films under that name on Blu Ray, titles like: Return of the Living Dead 3(unrated), Warlock trilogy, Wishmaster, Lair of the White Worm, Blood Diner, Chopping Mall, Waxwork, Slaughter High, etc. I recommend getting some of those. I have the Angel Collection on DVD!

I like "Wishmaster", "Lair of the White Worm", and "Chopping Mall" especially, and I had "Slaughter High" on VHS once, but that film's a bit too sad for me.

reply

Yeah, I love "The Angel Collection"; it really isn't that perverse, I feel that it mostly just involves unique characters, especially the first two films (I'm not all that fond of the third film though; it's okay, but more of a TV film I think).

reply

It was basically a street hooker becoming an action hero LOL! I'm not sure if that had been done before that film? Angel 3 isn't that great and there is an Angel 4 believe it or not!
