My excuse for seeing this film

When I was in college, I was helping someone out with homework, and we were desperately trying not to do it, so I turned on the Sci Fi channel at about 4AM, and we watched it start to finish.

Was it the worst movie I every saw?
Likely

Will I every forget it?
Absolutely not!

Was it one of the best movie experiences I've ever had?
Definitely

I watched this when i was about 8.

Got it out with my Dad because I liked Wrestling and loved Rowdy Roddy Piper.

I still think the Title is Amazing.

yes, i saw this movie when i was younger (i was 4 yrs old when it came out) and loved it (as a kid) because i was a fan of WWF and also a fan of Roddy Piper,

i've since grown out of the WWf but this movie rocks my ferking pants off.
i own it on DVD, and it's one of the best B movies evar.

I heard Piper starred in it, so I checked it out about 3 weeks ago. With plot like that, I knew this movie had to be so bad, it would be great. And that it was. Nothing beats "Shut your hooooooooooooooooooooooooole".

It was one of those nights were you are up far too late, you know you should go to sleep, but for some unknown reason you do every thing in your power to stay awake. I was flipping through the channels and came to USA network, this was back when they had that horrific woman hosting USA Up All Night. Needless to say I was drawn in to there web of B movie glory, I challenge anyone to keep flipping channels once they come to a movie with a title like Hell Comes to Frog Town. I was up until 4:30 in the morning watching this gem and I am a better man for it. I have had countless late night TV watching sessions, but few stand out in my mind. I will never forget this movie and consider it a badge of honor having witnessed this. Until that moment I was blind, but now I can see.

Actually I got to participate for 3 days in the shooting of this fiasco.
I was one of the frog guards (not credited). I got to meet Rowdy Roddy Piper who was very friendly and Sandahl Bergman who asked me where she could get some coffee. The frog puns were flying a mile a minute on the set and some were unbearable. Also note the green beer made of 7-up and Palmolive. Three nights in a warehouse was too much for me and I refused to continue in a heavy frog costume in Death Valley in May-June of 1987 even though they promised me a credit.

USA Up All Night taught me most of what I know today. From The Toxic Avenger to Meatballs to Hell Comes to Frogtown, I was exposed to the high-marks of cinematic history every Friday and Saturday night on USA. That show went Kaput, and I moved on with my life, but as more and more rare, strange gems kept showing up on DVD my childhood came back to me. Hell Comes to Frogtown was one of the best things I remember from that show and I love this damned movie. Great stuff.

I am yet another fan who saw this movie on the old USA Up All Night show. It is probably the most memorable one I saw on that show, although "Flesh Eating Mothers" ranks pretty high too. I wish that show was still on. The only thing I ever liked better in that time slot was the old original hour long Howard Stern show (not the E! program - this one was on channel 13 in LA).

I don't remember which host was on the night I saw this - there were two different women and Gilbert Gottfried during the tenure.

One note on Gilbert - he was the host when a movie called "Phoenix the Warrior" was shown. He did a bit showing the career decline of Persis Khambatta from Miss India, through a major role in the first Star Trek movie, and then down to movies such as Phoenix the Warrior. He had graphs and everything - it was much funnier than the movie was. Sadly, Persis died of a heart attack at only 47 - very sad.

I had a baby sitter when I was in first or second grade ( I think that's about eight-years-old) that let us watch all these movies that maybe kids shouldn't see. Frogtown, Alien Nation (I was eating a hamburger while watching A.N. and some part of it made me sick and I didn't eat hamburgers for a month after), Tuff Turf (which resulted in a hugh crush on James Spader!), some killer tomato movie, another movie where there is an alien or something that comes to this camp, Aliens (which gave me major nightmares), etc.

Those were the years... I remember part of Frogtown where one of the frogs--who I believe don't wear pants--was hip-thrusting and I felt really naughty watching it. I was like eight, remember. I haven't seen this movie since then, so I have no idea how bad it actually is. I did love it as a kid, though!

My excuse for watching this movie was I use to watch on The USA Network USA UP ALL NIGHT on every weekend! This movie was a very enjoyable movie to watch. Plus, I use to be a WWF fan at one time.

I loved the beautiful eye candy that they had in this movie! It was great to see a good cult classic! I miss The USA Network having USA UP ALL NIGHT on the weekends! They showed some great movies every weekend!

I would recommend watching this with pizza and cold beers.

I too was introduced to this, and several other of the glorious movies mentioned, by USA Up-All-Night. It was quality programming, perhaps the best ever produced by USA. I think it dominated my existence from 12 to 14. Then I lost my virginity and found better things to do with my early morning weekend hours.

My mother taped this for me off of USA Up All Night one night when she couldn't sleep. She was so blown away by it and she knew I would never believe it, so she taped it for me. I probably missed like the first 15 or 20 minutes of it, so I had to go rent it. What a great B flick. One of my all time favorites. I now own 2 copies (1 to watch and one to keep for posterity). I use this film as a test to potential boyfriends. If they like it, they are a keeper. If they don't like it, well then, see ya later pal.

I think that USA up all night should really be honored in some sort of awards ceremony for giving everyone so much great b movie knowledge, and helping so many people win trivia games by coming up with obscure references from movies that only the select elite have seen.

Rest in peace USA up all night, rest in peace...

Only 25 here, but had one of those original cable boxes in my room for as far as my memory can reach. USA catered to me, also, many of the film nasties that I cherish today. Kudos, USA. [just wanted to offer some credit where due]

24 here. I must have been in elementary school when I first saw this movie.

Unfortunately I didn't have cable as a kid. But on weekends WPIX (channel 11 if you're a NYC resident) would play 80s and early 90s comedies and action movies in the afternoon. So if I wasn't busy playing with toys or getting punished by my dad, I'd park my ass on the couch or on the floor in my room to watch whatever sillyness they had on.

I heard they were showing a movie with Roddy Piper (i was also a WWF fan as a kid, and have long since grown out of that period). Of course the name sounded badass and I loved sci-fi movies back then. As expected the movie was ridiculous, campy, and incredible. I was definitely surprised as to how raunchy it was (Sandahl Bergman hubba hubba!) and how erotic the premise of the story was but I thought it was hilarious and I liked the frog costumes (I actually thought they were really impressive).

Its been a while since Ive seen that movie and I foresee myself hunting down the dvd in the near future.

Btw, to Jane Deaux. I think the killer tomato movie you're thinking of was Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and the alien goes to camp movie was Meatballs 2.

reply

My excuse is that it was on the Horror Channel and I thought it sounded funny! Oh, and I love Roddy Piper. Have to confess, it made me giggle. :)

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"
