How I came to know about this movie

Hello all,

I happen to be an adult male who owns pet frogs. I realize they are meant for kids, but I had these Grow-A-Frogs when I was younger and opted to try them again. (There is a web site, www.growafrog.com, where you can read about them and order them).

As I happened to own these frogs, I happened to see in TV Guide the title of this movie and thought it would be curious and interesting to see it.

Granted, Sandahl Bergman has a couple of humiliating/embarassing dance sequences in it, and it is certainly not meant for kids. But there is a lot of witty and hilarious dialogue in this movie.

It's definitely a B movie cult classic (which I now own on DVD!).

I found it out (although i've never seen it) through a game called Boulderdash.

On how I came across this movie was when I was younger my neighbor had HBO and they use to show this on there or it was some premium channel that it was on. I also watched it on USA UP ALL NIGHT on The USA Network.

Back in the day they would show movies like this every weekend and many other great cult classics as well. I loved the women in this movie. A lot of eye candy and all. This is a classic to rent on the weekend and order pizza and beer.

I found it through Boulderdash as well!

I discovered this movie when I was roughly 10 years old, at the time one of my local networks had a weekly horror movie double saturday rather unimaginatively named "Nightmare Theater" which I watched RELIGIOUSLY. One weekend I turned it on as per my saturday ritual and was blessed with seeing this movie back to back with the sequel. To be honest I can't for the life of me figure out why I sat through either of them my only guess is that being a childhood wrestling fan and the presence of roddy piper was enough to hold my attention.

I still have a pretty strong fondness for both flicks cuz they fall into that category of "So bad its almost good" right up there with Killer Klowns From Outer Space which to this day is still one of my all time favorite movies.

There's a virginmedia.com article featuring it now, that's where I first heard of it. Not sure if I want to see it, though. It stars villains from two of my least favourite movies out there: Roddy Piper of Shepherd (aka Cybercity) and William Smith of Pirana.

I found out about it through a site called - badmovies.org & it sounded like such a fun movie.
I bought it on VHS off Ebay in Dec. of 2005 (I was still collecting VHS then) & then got the DVD of it a couple years later.

This really is a cult classic! A B-movie masterpiece.

I remember reading a feature about it in a computer magazine - Sinclair User, probably - back when it was new. I could swear the same magazine had features on Monster Squad and Killer Klowns from Outer Space, but Monster Squad came out the year before. Perhaps it was out on video.

I remember Earth Girls are Easy came out at almost the same time, so 1987-88 was a good year for enjoyable postmodern sci-fi kitsch. Only one of those films had Geena Davis in a bikini and Jeff Goldblum in a furry suit, though. And it wasn't Hell Comes to Frogtown.

EDIT: There was The Wizard of Speed and Time as well. And the infamously poor Space Mutiny, a favourite of the MST3K crowd.

I chose to rent it on video way back in the day, not long after it was first released. I have no regrets.

Nor do I carry any shame in the telling.

At another board here on IMDB there were folks discussing what makes horror/comedy works. From their description of Frogtown I thought it would be a hoot.

My favorite: "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"

Curiosity got the better of me after seeing They Live, a classic John Carpenter movies which also stars Roddy Piper. I googled his filmography to find this bizzare title for a movie and read the plot outline, chuckled and dedicated my free time to hunting this movie down. I managed to see it on Youtube of all places. I plan to get it on DVD from Amazon.

I found out about this via an article on a website called I-Mockery.com. After reading about it and having a laugh, I decided to watch the movie years later and wound up having much more fun than I did reading about it.

A friend and I went through a phase in the late 80s of deliberately renting out the worst movies we could find, just for the LOLs. How could we not try a film called "Hell Comes To Frogtown" that featured a wrestler as it's lead? Amazingly, we loved it and it remains a favourite to this day.
